Trip to the Active Volcano near Greek Island of Santorini - Greek Tour 3

Greek tour 1

Greek tour 2

Our trip to this volcanic island was not an easy one. We knew it would not be easy, but Ines never thought it would be so hot like this. She used to go any walking trip early but in this case Greeks are starting their trips around 10.00 am the earliest. We went looking for the port to get on the sailing ship. We decided not to take the cable cars, that's an easy option. Instead, we want to walk down to the port. As in any other cases of walking in this terrain, we soon realised that this was a bad idea.

it's quite beautiful view from the island in the middle of the caldera. You can see the beatiful view around the crater and caldera.

Volcano in this island is very much active. These islands are called Palaia Kameni and Nea kameni. //Palea Kameni and Nea Kameni were formed as a result of multiple, initially submarine, smaller eruptions at the centre of the caldera. Their last eruption was in 1950, and now only fumarolic activity, primarily inside the recently active craters, takes place. GPS instruments registered renewed deformation around the caldera in 2011 and 2012.- Wikipedia//

There are hot springs with water full of sulphur. (You can smell it)

I could see only one tree or several bushes  for the whole Island.

Some photos of the walk to the volcano:

It's customry to put some stones together to mark your visit. I was told that this viking tradition is to  remember loved ones, family and friends.

It shows here the eruptions happned since 197 BC.  Nearest one happend in 1952.

Mud bath.

There are three beach sides here. White, Red and black beaches. You can approach red and black beaches from the island side but to the white beach you can only go by a boat. Nicest and less crowded one is the white beach. You can swim quite far into the sea because it’s not that deep. The names are correspondent to the colours of the cliffs. The lava monoliths from the ancient volcano give these colours to the area.

The Red Beach of Santorini is without a doubt one of the most stunning and interesting beaches on the island, that stands out for its colour.

They took us to nice beach to have our lunch with sea food. .
